Duplicated the background layer, applied the High Pass filter with a radius of 2, then set to Hard Light. This layer was then reduced to a 40% opacity.ġ0. Created a layer with softened and slightly blurred tones, to which I applied a radial mask outward from the horses. This also resized and scaled the added film grain, making it appear as a more integral part of the image.ĩ. For a 20x30 print, 150dpi is more than enough resolution. Resized image to 30" wide 150dpi using Bicubic Smoother.
Added film grain to above layer, making the image look as though it had been blown up from 35mm, adding texture, and hiding some leftover compression artifacts from the original image.Ĩ. Created a new layer filled with neutral gray, layer blending mode set to Overlay.ħ. Saved this file as a Genuine Fractals PrintPro. I then reduced the opacity to give a pleasing effect.Ĥ. , inverting the selection, putting it on a separate layer using command-J, and changing the layer mode to Lighten. Lightened the shadows a bit by doing an option-select. command to apply the blur to the Color mode. Removed color noise by doing a 4 radius Gaussian Blur and then used the Fade.
Ran the original unretouched image through a light Grain Surgery grain removal.Ģ. To me, this scene is about serenity, and the focus of the composition is the group of horses juxtaposed against the scale of the elements. The key with this photo, since there isn't much resolution, is to shift the focus from resolving details (which is what most people are apt to do with landscapes) to appreciating the subject matter.
